Celtic are close to completing the loan signing of Japanese attacker Daizen Maeda as the club’s first arrival of the January window.

According to a Japanese outlet Hochi News, the Hoops will initially sign Maeda on loan in the New Year, with Celtic having a £1.6m option to make the signing permanent in the summer.

Maeda has been linked with Celtic for some time. However, it now appears that the Hoops have landed the 24-year-old winger, who has been one of the top players in Japan in 2021.

The Yokohama F. Marinos star has scored an impressive 22 goals in 36 J1 League games this season, and Ange Postecoglou looks to have won the race for the winger.

Maeda will become the second Japanese player brought to Celtic under the managership of Postecoglou, with Kyogo Furuhashi joining the Scottish giants in the summer.

Moreover, Kyogo has been a revelation in Glasgow, with the attacker bagging 16 goals and five assists in all competitions for Celtic. And with Maeda having a better scoring record than his countryman, supporters on social media are excited about the winger.

Celtic sit six points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table. However, the arrival of Maeda could give the Hoops the extra firepower needed to overtake their Glasgow rivals in the title race.
