Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Steven Gerrard sent a message to Trent Alexander-Arnold in The Times.

The former Liverpool captain was discussing the right-back’s exclusion from Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Sadly, The Athletic claimed that Alexander-Arnold was left feeling devastated after finding out he hadn’t been called up by the Three Lions.

However, Gerrard has offered his sympathy, and also said the 22-year-old can contact him at any time if he ever needs advice.

The Times quote the Rangers boss as saying: “One thing’s for sure, I’ll always be there for Trent. It goes without saying, any second of the day. I’m there for Trent and any of the other Liverpool players at any moment of the day.”

This is heartwarming from Gerrard.

His words show how much of a leader he is, so much so that his efforts extend away from Ibrox and towards Anfield, even though he has his own players to look after.

Of course, Gerrard and Alexander-Arnold followed the same path into Liverpool’s first-team, having come through the academy.

In that respect, there are few better people to lean on for advice than the 40-year-old, who has seen it all at Anfield.

He is clearly held in high regard by many, and rightly so.
