Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting after hearing Marc Overmars will not be going to Newcastle United to become their new Sporting Director.
The Dutchman has turned down the chance to go to St James’ Park, instead opting to stay at Ajax.
However, while Overmars is remaining loyal to Ajax for now, Arsenal fans seemingly believe it’s just a matter of time before he comes to the Emirates.
To be fair, it would make a lot of sense. Overmars is a fan favourite in north London due to his exploits during his playing days, and the Arsenal job is one of the biggest in Europe – despite the Gunners’ recent struggles.
Newcastle couldn’t attract Overmars, but the Arsenal fanbase feel as though he would jump at the opportunity to head to the Emirates.
Whether or not Overmars does turn up at Arsenal in the near future remains to be seen, but supporters of the London club are certainly confident.
