Darren Bent has torn into Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold following his performance against Manchester United on Monday night.

Liverpool slumped to a 2-1 defeat by the Red Devils at Old Trafford and Alexander-Arnold, not the first time this season, failed to cover himself in glory.

The hosts went ahead on 16 minutes through Jadon Sancho and television replays indicate that the Reds right-back – beaten in a one-two prior to the goal – offered a rather half-hearted attempt to prevent the opener which led to Alisson being beaten.

On the first day of the campaign, when Jurgen Klopp’s outfit drew 2-2 at Fulham, the England international was easily beaten to a header by Aleksandr Mitrovic at the back post.

There’s been many examples of Alexander-Arnold’s questionable defending in recent years and Bent, speaking to talkSPORT, has slated the Kirkby academy product, claiming he’s ‘the worst’ of England’s players for that position.

He said: “My goodness. Wow. People will keep banging that drum that he’s better than Reece James and Kyle Walker. Absolutely not. Out of those three he’s the worst and unfortunately last night it’s almost like they picked on him.”

Going forward, Alexander-Arnold is potentially the best full-back in world football.

Last season, the 23-year-old managed a stunning 19 assists for Liverpool across all competitions which, for a defender, is a frightening return.

But we keep going back to his lack of defensive ability and there’s just no doubt that he isn’t as competent in this department as he is an attacker.
