Liverpool moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League table this afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s side absolutely thumped Crystal Palace 7-0 at Selhurst Park in what was a big example of their title credentials.
Despite being top before a ball was kicked today, we hadn’t really seen the very best of the Reds yet this season.
But that changed today with what was an utterly ruthless performance from the reigning champions of England.
Roberto Firmino, who scored the last-minute winner against Spurs in midweek, was arguably star of the show, scoring two brilliant goals.
He made it 3-0 just before half-time, effortlessly latching on to Andy Robertson’s cross with the most delicates of first touches, before casually poking past the Palace stopper Vicente Guaita.
It really was a quite wonderful touch to collect Robertson’s cross and here’s how former Liverpool star Don Hutchison reacted to the goal on Twitter:
Firmino, who went on to bag a brace in the second half with a beautiful chip over the Spanish goalkeeper, is hitting form at the right time.
Klopp will be without Diogo Jota for a couple of months, adding pressure on Firmino to improve in the goalscoring stakes.
And three goals in his last two games is evidence that he’s doing just that.
