Perr Schuurs is not surprised by speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool, but he told Voetbal Zone that he has no interest in walking away from Ajax just yet.
A player often labelled the ‘new Matthijs de Ligt’ – including by none other than Michael Owen – makes a good point.
At Ajax, you are only ever a few stand-out performances away from being linked with a mega-money move to a European giant.
As 21-year-old Schuurs catches the eye with his confident distribution and progressive approach at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Corriere dello Sport claims that Liverpool have put an offer of £27 million on the table.
“You know that’s going to happen when you play at Ajax. But I would like to play here, for this club and my focus is here to win. I’d like to play for a few more years at Ajax,” Schuurs said, all-but ruling out a move to Anfield in 2021 when asked about Liverpool’s interest.
“I am very confident in myself with my development.”

Interestingly, a teenage Schuurs turned down a move to Merseyside in 2017, believing that his development would have been better suited by staying with Ajax (Voetbal International).
Three years on, it seems that little has changed.
Liverpool may be facing an injury crisis of epic proportions but, when everyone is fit and firing, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and probably Joel Matip would all be ahead of Schuurs in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order.
Maybe the Dutchman plans to take a leaf out of Hakim Ziyech’s book and bide his time in Amsterdam. After all, if he continues to improve under Erik Ten Hag, he could be walking into the starting XI of a bona fide European giant in a few years.
