‘My first choice’: TalkSport pundit makes PL title claim Tottenham fans will love

Danny Mills has told talkSPORT (10/11/20 at 9:15 pm) that Tottenham are his ‘first choice’ to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

Spurs are currently sitting second in the Premier League table, where they are one point behind current leaders Leicester City.

The last gameweek perhaps summed up the crazy season that is unfolding because Southampton, Spurs and then the Foxes all topped the table.

Former England defender Mills thinks those in North London have a serious chance to win the title and they are ‘leading the pack’ behind the obvious two contenders.

“Now they have Gareth Bale,” said Mills. “He’s easing his way into it. He’s still a very, very talented player. He’s not 100% fit yet and he’s only going to get better.

“In a Tottenham shirt, you have Son, Harry Kane and you could then possibly play Bergwijn on the right-hand side. You can play Gareth Bale in the 10 role. In the free role. Dele Alli might come back into that role.

“Spurs have got some seriously good players in those attacking front four positions. Tottenham would be my first choice after Liverpool and Manchester City. I think they are leading the pack to challenge. Do they have a chance of winning it? Yes, I think they do. And if Mourinho can get that defence right with the attacking players they have got.

“Tottenham, right now, I think would be the closest challengers.”

Two games will standout for Tottenham fans this season – their draw at home to Newcastle and West Ham’s comeback.

The Premier League has slightly altered their view of the handball rule since that Eric Dier incident, but that late penalty against Newcastle cost them two points they perhaps deserved.

Whilst they will be kicking themselves at how they managed to let a three-goal lead slip with little time left on the clock against their London rivals – all those points added together would put them top and they will be hoping it doesn’t cost them at the end of the campaign.
