Mark Lawrenson has shared that Thiago Alcantara is his ‘favourite’ player currently at Liverpool, as he told Football Focus.
The Anfield legend shared how Thiago has ‘got a radar’ on him when pinging passes out from the middle of the park.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Thiago is thriving in Liverpool colours because he has showcased it throughout his career.
The 30-year-old, who spent seven years at Bayern Munich before moving to Merseyside, found life tough during the first 12 months of his Premier League career.
It wasn’t down to quality, but injuries, COVID and an in-balanced squad around him that led to his indifferent start.
But now Thiago has his foot on the accelerator and is showcasing to the Liverpool fans what he is made of and Lawrenson is seemingly loving every minute of it.
“Talking about Thiago, he is my favourite player, at the moment,” said Lawrenson.
“If he was five years older (younger) and he had signed for Liverpool, we would be like ‘wow, he has got radar that guy’.”
It could be argued that Thiago now starts in Liverpool’s strongest midfield, alongside the two popular choices of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
He will be hoping for those minutes away at Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds hoping to pounce on the north London club’s lack of playing time recently.
Spurs have had their last three matches postponed because of COVID and will be game rusty heading into today’s showdown.
But others will feel that they have some advantage because of the rest and preparation time they have been able to have for this match.
