Speaking to the BBC Football Daily Podcast, Rafa Benitez has been speaking about his future in management amid links to West Ham United.

The Spaniard is reportedly in pole position for the West Ham job if David Moyes gets the sack in the coming weeks, and it appears that a move to the London Stadium would appeal to Benitez.

Indeed, the Spaniard says that his family have told him to look for a job in England or in Europe to stay as close to them as possible – his family still live on The Wirral after his stints at Liverpool and Everton.

Benitez told to stay in England

The manager spoke about his future.

“I said to you. I’ve had nearly 20 offers from national teams and countries, but my family say try to stay around, try to stay in England or try to stay in Europe. I’m watching out for Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England to stay as close as possible. I don’t need to go to a second division team or a mid-table team, I don’t need to do that. I don’t need to get money in Qatar or China, I did it because it was the time, but now I want a project where I can compete and improve players,” Benitez said.

West Ham is perfect

Based on what Benitez says here, a move to West Ham United could be perfect for the ex-Liverpool boss.

Indeed, they’re based in England, they have a number of talented young players coming through and they are building a project.

Yes, it’s not going to plan right now, but recent big-money signings show that West Ham are a club with ambition, and Benitez would relish the chance to work at a club like that.
