Danny Rose has claimed that it doesn’t take a ‘rocket scientist’ to know that he’s on borrowed time as a Tottenham Hotspur player.
The England left-back joined Newcastle on a half-season loan in January after being exiled by Spurs boss Jose Mourinho.
And the 29-year-old – who earns £60,000 per week with the Lilywhites – has been a big hit at Newcastle, where the player admits he’d like to stay.
Rose probably burned his bridges at Tottenham – the club he joined in 2007 – under Mourinho when he criticised the Portuguese over a lack of game time in February, after joining the Magpies.
He made 16 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino earlier in the season, but only five after the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was hired in November.
And Rose has told Newcastle’s match-day programme, as quoted by The Shields Gazette, that his ‘days are numbered’ in North London.
He said: “For me, I’d love to play for Newcastle for longer than what’s on my contract
“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that my days possibly are numbered at Spurs, and I’m playing for my future. There’s no bigger motivation for me. It’s probably been the first time in my career when I’ve been in this situation – never have I been down to less than one year on my contract, so it’s a new experience for me.”
Newcastle fans would love to have him long-term, but some Tottenham supporters may be sad to see him go.
That’s because Rose, as mentioned, has been on their books for 13 years and for a couple of seasons under Pochettino looked like one of the continent’s best left-backs, but things went sour after a few explosive interviews about the club’s transfer policy and his form has suffered ever since.
