Xherdan Shaqiri and Jordan Henderson were just a handful of players to send their congratulations to Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, on Instagram for winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.
In a tense final in Cameroon, Mane, who was up against his Liverpool teammate Mo Salah and his Egypt side, scored the winning spot-kick after 120 minutes couldn’t separate both teams.
After the game, Mane thanked God on his Instagram, as Shaqiri posted in the comments sections ‘Congratulations, my bro.’, with the likes of Jordan Henderson, Virgil van Dijk, Djibril Cissé and Djibril Sidibé all expressing their delight at his achievement also.
Whilst Salah was on the losing end of last night’s final, all of this might bode well for those back on Merseyside.
Prior to Mane leaving for the AFCON’s, his form was indifferent, just like last season, but perhaps this could see him turn back into his consistent old self.
Added with that, you have Salah already causing havoc on the flanks, with 16 Premier League goals this season.
And, even though he missed a few league games, no one is still nowhere near the 29-year-old in the goalscoring charts.
A confident Mane and an angry Salah could be a recipe of disaster for opposition teams during the second half of the campaign, with the Reds still in every competition.
A League Cup final awaits Jurgen Klopp and his players, as well as a fifth-round FA Cup tie against Norwich, the Premier League title race and the knockout stages of the Champions League.
All in all, the quadruple is well and truly on for Liverpool, but joking aside, if they don’t manage to secure at least one trophy this term, then they will be disappointed.
