Aaron Ramsdale has shared that he told Kalvin Phillips ‘your fans must be loaded’ after Leeds supporters chucked coins at the Arsenal goalkeeper.

The England international is making reference to Arsenal’s 4-1 win at Elland Road earlier this month and how he got a lot of abuse from the Leeds fans, as he told Ben Foster’s YouTube channel.

To the credit of the Arsenal summer signing, he made it clear that he took it all in his stride and was ‘laughing it off’.

Given Ramsdale donned the gloves in England’s lower leagues, then the stick he got from the Leeds fans is nothing compared to what he might have got during his younger days.

But it seems as though it was quite eventful for the shot-stopper, who shared that he collected £17 from the coins that were thrown at him.

“After the first (goal), there were some bottles and stuff thrown,” said Ramsdale “It was okay, chuck them off to the side. Then a few lighters, chuck them off to the side.

“Next thing you know, money started coming and I started looking around there was one £2 quid. And I collect £2 quids, so I took that. Then there are quids and 50p’s.

“So, I am looking around and picking them up. Put them by my towel. And at half-time, I put them in my towel and I run off. In the second half, a few more come.

“I have gone back in and I am speaking to Kalvin Phillips. I was like ‘your fans must be loaded’. It was like £17 I pulled off the pitch. And I missed some money. I think the kitman might have taken it.”

Given that Ramsdale used to be an ex-Sheffield United keeper wouldn’t have helped matters for the player.

But ever since he moved to Arsenal, he has become a very popular figure with the Arsenal faithful.

One of the reasons behind it all is the character he has shown in between the sticks and how he celebrates team goals.

But, at the end of the day, it was his side who got the last laugh because they walked away from Yorkshire with all three points to their names.
