Miguel Almiron has won Newcastle United’s Player of the Month award [official website].
And honestly, rightly so.
The Paraguay international has been sensational for Newcastle this season and particularly during the month of October.
The 28-year-old, a £20 million signing by the Magpies in 2019 [talkSPORT], scored a stunning six Premier League goals last month [Transfermarkt] – a return that means he’s likely to win the divisional award, too.
Almiron was publicly mocked by Jack Grealish during Manchester City’s Premier League title celebrations back in May.
And Darren Bent has admitted that it must be ‘horrible’ for the former Aston Villa winger – who has one goal in 14 games this season – to see what the South American maestro has been doing.
He told talkSPORT: “He’s playing very well. It must be horrible for Jack Grealish. I read a story about Almiron and the form that he’s in, and right at the bottom of it it said how good he’s been, and how poor Jack Grealish has been.”
Bent is correct in saying that it’s a pickle for Grealish and one he must be a little embarrassed about.
Even without Almiron’s form, the Manchester City player will have been mortified to see his own comments about a fellow professional cause such a stir.
But now that the Newcastle attacker – who cost £80 million less than Grealish – is thriving, well suffice to say it must be difficult for the England international.
