The Mexican has struggled since joining Glasgow Rangers in the summer.

Gers boss Graeme Murty spoke to reporters ahead of his side’s clash with bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership tomorrow, and responded to reports that Carlos Pena is interested in making a return home to Mexico in January, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old ace was brought to Ibrox from Mexican side Club Leon by Murty’s predecessor Pedro Caixinha in the summer, for a fee beliveed to be in the region of £3.5 million, but has played a peripheral role for Rangers, making just six league starts for his club.
The Glasgow giants have begun their campaign in mixed fashion this season, and currently sit 11 points adrift of league leaders Celtic in third spot in the table, but Murty deserves great credit for the manner in which he has stabilised the club, following Caixinha’s dismissal in October.

Pena, though, has fallen down the pecking order since the 43-year-old took the reigns at Rangers.
Murty responded to reporters when asked whether he would be surprised to see the Mexico international leave Ibrox next month, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“No we’ve not spoken yet but all players, when it comes to January, will be looking at their options, no matter whether you have a four-year deal or are in your last six months. Every player when the transfer window opens will be looking at making sure they secure the best future for themselves and their family. I understand that – that’s the nature of the beast. So if you come to me and say that ‘X player’ has been notified that this is going to happen it wouldn’t really surprise me. We just need to be honest and open with the player and be flexible enough to react properly.”
With the opening of the January transfer just around the corner, this will be one for Rangers fans to keep a close eye on.
