The Glasgow Rangers forward needs to do more in a creative capacity.
Speaking to the BBC after Rangers’ 2-1 victory against Ross County last weekend, the Gers’ interim boss Graeme Murty highlighted the need for additional support in attacking areas, with striker Alfredo Morelos unable to do everything on his own.
The Colombian ended his goal drought after coming off the bench for the second half, and Murty was quick to praise the young forward for his latest contribution, while suggesting it was up to those around Morelos to ensure his chances were plentiful.
“Strikers don’t operate in a vacuum,” the temporary Rangers boss told the BBC. “It’s up to the players around them to create chances and make space through clever movement and quick play.”
Given Josh Windass’s resurgent form while doing just that, it is not hard to point the finger at another Rangers player in the form of Kenny Miller.
After all, despite coming to the end of his career, Murty will still be expecting the 37-year-old to work hard for his teammates and create more than he is currently.
So far this season the experienced forward has managed only four goals and four assists, and his lack of movement is not aiding Morelos in his own pursuit of additional strikes.
While it is not Miller’s fault alone that Morelos is not always getting sufficient support, he is one of the few Rangers players who is not showing what Murty requires, with both Windass and Daniel Candeias doing their best to impress.
