Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier scored twice for Graeme Murty’s Gers side against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Wednesday.
The Gers returned to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday evening with a 3-0 victory over Aberdeen at Ibrox.
Tavernier was the star of the show for the Glasgow giants, as the 26-year-old former Newcastle United right-back scored twice for the home team.
The English defender scored first from the penalty spot in the seventh minute and doubled his tally on 70 minutes.
Rangers interm-manager Murty has revealed to the club’s official website what he told Tavernier at half time.
“Tav reckons he has an absolute wand of a right foot and I told him at half-time he had to stop letting his man get away from him and that I didn’t expect to see his player at all in the game in the second half,” Murty told Rangers’ official website.
“I thought he stepped up to the challenge against a difficult opponent and I thought his second goal was just the icing on the cake for him.”
Murty added about Rangers’ performance against Aberdeen: “I said to the players before that it’s not enough at this football club to just be on the pitch wearing the shirt, you have to contribute, and you have to make something happen.
“I thought they stepped up this evening and we will be calling upon them to match, if not exceed that level from now on.”
Rangers were the better side against Aberdeen and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter at Ibrox.
The Gers are third in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 27 points from 15 matches, seven points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have a game in hand.
