Rangers beat Hamilton Academical 5-3 this afternoon.
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has told the club’s official website that he felt Greg Docherty improved in the second half of the 5-3 win over Hamilton Academical this afternoon.
The Gers travelled to New Douglas Park on Sunday afternoon to take on Hamilton away from home, and were looking for another positive result having dropped just five points in the previous six games.
Murty’s men fell behind when Darren Lyons handed the hosts the lead, but Rangers were in fine attacking form and hit back in style, as Jamie Murphy and Josh Windass put Rangers ahead, with David Templeton equalising before Alfredo Morelos and Windass again found the net to make it 4-2 at the break.
Windass completed his hat-trick in the second half, but a late penalty from Dougie Imrie set up a tense finale in what was a crazy, end-to-end game of football.
Rangers have now leapfrogged Aberdeen into second place in the Scottish Premiership table, but manager Murty wasn’t entirely happy at the full-time whistle.
Murty has told the club’s official website that he wanted his side to be more sensible defensively, and told his players to play from a better structure in the second half rather than flying forward at every opportunity – something his players didn’t quite take on board as he wanted.
Murty also commented on Greg Docherty’s performance, with the Rangers midfielder facing former club Hamilton for the first time since completing his January move to Ibrox.
Murty gave an honest verdict, suggesting that Docherty was much improved in the second half, but still needs to become tidier in possession of the ball after a slack first half showing.
“I said at half time, the front four are winning the game, so let’s play from a better structure,” said Murty. “I thought Greg Docherty was far better in the second half, but he needs to tidy up with the ball,” he added.
