Murty: Rangers captain Wallace has had second operation

Rangers captain Lee Wallace has been sidelined at Ibrox since September.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has been quoted by BT Sport as saying that captain Lee Wallace has undergone surgery for a second time to correct a hernia problem.

Wallace, 30, last appeared for the Gers back in September when he suffered a groin injury, which forced the former Hearts left-back to go under the knife to correct the problem.

It saw Wallace have outside hopes of returning before the Christmas break but that did not happen and now the defender is expected to remain on the sidelines for another period after Murty confirmed he had undergone a second operation.

Murty told the press that he remains confident the Gers captain can return to the side sooner rather than later despite undergoing the procedure.

“Lee has had a bi-lateral hernia repair but we’re confident he won’t be out for too much longer and that we will have him back in short order,” Murty said.

Wallace has managed just five appearances this season for the Gers, and could even find himself out of position when he returns due to the form of flying left-back Declan John on the left side of defence.

Rangers are next in action in the Scottish Cup on Sunday afternoon against Highland League minnows Fraserburgh, if the game survives a pitch inspection on Saturday evening at 5pm.
