Rangers face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Graeme Murty has a big decision to make when it comes to his Rangers starting line-up to face Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the Scottish Premiership’s lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

Veteran striker Kenny Miller remains sidelined with a ruptured hamstring and will do so for a sizeable chunk into the new year, which forced Murty to banish his tried-and-trusted diamond formation, adopting a 4-3-3 system instead.

But the Gers struggled in a system that saw Ross McCrorie sit behind Ryan Jack and Jason Holt, while Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias were used on the flanks and Alfredo Morelos lead the line.

Colombian forward Morelos did not get enough service, and when he finally did, he was isolated and that should see Murty revert to his diamond system as it gives Morelos a partner and a number 10 to connect the midfield and attack.

Windass has shown his versatility and is quickly becoming the heartbeat of Rangers’ play in the final third, and he should be thrown into a new role in the number 10 position with Carlos Pena not trusted enough to be consistent.

Dropping 29-year-old Daniel Candeias who was subbed off last time around after making little difference, Murty should finally hand Eduardo Herrera just his second league start alongside Morelos to combine the two and get Rangers firing.

The powerhouse striker, who is known for his physicality and aerial prowess as well as his fox-in-the-box style of attacking, has hardly been used by Murty despite the nine-time Mexico international costing the Ibrox club a fair whack.

He has featured for just 95 minutes under the 43-year-old caretaker, and Murty should finally see what all the fuss is about.

Starting the former Pumas striker alongside Morelos will put Kilmarnock to the sword on Saturday, and get the Gers back on track after their 3-1 loss to St. Johnstone last time around.
