Murray Davidson surprised Michael O’Halloran is not at Rangers

Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers sent Michael O’Halloran out on loan from Ibrox to St Johnstone in the summer transfer window.

St Johnstone midfielder Murray Davidson has told The Courier that he is surprised that Michael O’Halloran is not part of the Rangers team at the moment.

O’Halloran joined Rangers from St Johnstone in February 2016 when Mark Warburton – now in charge of Nottingham Forest in the Championship in England – was the manager for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £500,000.

Much was expected of the former Scotland Under-21 when he moved to Ibrox, but the ex-Bolton Wanderers prospect has failed to make a massive impact for the Gers so far.

O’Halloran returned to his former club St Johnstone on loan from Rangers until January in the summer transfer window, with Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha subsequently telling The Daily Record that the 26-year-old Scotsman is not his type of player.

The forward’s current contract at Rangers runs until June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, but if Caixinha remains in charge of the Gers, then it is hard to see him play for the Glasgow giants again.

St Johnstone midfielder Davidson, 29, has admitted his surprise that O’Halloran is not part of the current Rangers team.

“I think he’s a player who, nothing against Rangers and the players there, his raw pace gives them another dimension – one they haven’t really got,” Davidson told The Courier about O’Halloran.

“I would rather have him in the team – or at least not playing against us. Being honest, I’m surprised he’s not had more of a shot at Rangers. But that’s football.”
