The Spurs striker is expected to miss the Champions League quarter-final return leg at Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotspur secured a vital 1-0 win over Manchester City in their Champions League quarter-final first leg but it came at a price as Harry Kane was unable to continue.
The Spurs talisman had attempted to block a Fabian Delph pass but he rolled his left ankle moments before the left-back followed through and connected with the striker’s ankle.
According to manager Mauricio Pochettino, Kane’s season is over, as reported by the website of respected Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Wednesday morning.
However, former Spurs man Danny Murphy claims that the North Londoners will still be quietly confident of getting a result at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg.
The retired midfielder, who was at White Hart Lane between 2006 and 2007, is adamant that Tottenham will not be mentally throwing in the towel just because Kane may be out.
“Despite Kane’s injury they’ll be quietly confident – Tottenham have something to hang onto and still have pace on the break to catch City out,” Murphy told Sky Sports show The Debate.
“You don’t see a Tottenham side turning up to City and thinking they can’t win because they don’t have Harry Kane.”
With Son Heung-min in the form of his life and Fernando Llorente having performed superbly in the Englishman’s absence earlier this year, the Spurs front line is more than capable of delivering in the coming weeks even with Kane sidelined.
