The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder has raved about the Real Madrid winger, and believes that a return to Spurs would suit the Wales international.
Murphy has suggested that under the current economic climate, not many clubs will be able to afford or willing to sign the 31-year-old this summer.
Murphy wrote in The Daily Mail: “A couple could afford him, like Manchester United, but would they be willing to spend their budget on someone who’s played irregularly this year?
“Tottenham would be a better fit, he knows the place and would be a big fish there. There wouldn’t be the same pressure to win every single week.
“I got to know Gareth a little at Spurs, our time overlapped there and he was a likeable, hard-working kid. Quiet but no arrogance or big-time Charlie attitude.”
Back to Tottenham Hotspur?
Bale has not played regularly enough for Madrid for a while now, and there have also been injury problems.
However, the 31-year-old remains one of the best attacking players in the world, and when fit and in form, he is a force to be reckoned with.
The Wales international would be a stunning signing for Spurs, but given the cost involved, it is hard to see the North London outfit make a move for him this summer.
Moreover, with no Champions League football next season and no prospect of challenging for the Premier League title, Bale himself may not be willing to return to Spurs.
