Danny Murphy thinks David Moyes would make West Ham harder to beat than Slaven Bilic – his Sunderland record suggests otherwise.
Slaven Bilic, manager of West Ham United, gives his team instructions during the Premier League match against Liverpool.
Danny Murphy has suggested that West Ham United would become harder to beat should they sack Slaven Bilic as manager and replace him with David Moyes.
The former midfielder was speaking as a pundit on Match Of The Day following the Hammers’ 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.
The BBC pundits (L-R) Paul Scholes, part owner of Salford City and former players Danny Murphy and Trevor Sinclair talk prior to the Emirates FA Cup Second Round.
“(Moyes is) very experienced,” Murphy said. “He would get them a lot harder to beat. that’s for sure.”
The Scot has not managed since being sacked by Sunderland in May following their relegation from the English top flight.
Despite Murphy’s belief Moyes would make West Ham less susceptible to losing, the Black Cats lost 26 of their 38 league games last season – more than any other side.
David Moyes looks on during the Premier League match between Hull City and Sunderland.
However, the 54-year-old is now the 2/7 odds-on favourite with Skybet to succeed Bilic at the London Stadium – with the Croatian the 1/8 favourite with the same bookmakers to be the next boss in the division to leave their position.
Whether fans of the East Londoners would be enthused by the appointment of Moyes, who also failed to impress at Real Sociedad and Manchester United before being at the Stadium Of Light, remains to be seen.
