Murdo MacLeod believes that Celtic signing Odsonne Edouard permanently seems an odd decision unless Moussa Dembele leaves Parkhead.

Edouard has spent this past season on loan with the Hoops and has certainly impressed with a handful of important goals, including strikes in each of his last two Old Firm appearances for the club.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep the Paris Saint-Germain-owned forward on a permanent basis this summer, and the Record reports that Celtic may have to pay around £7 million to make a deal happen.
But while some may be urging the Scottish Premiership champions to get something done, MacLeod seemed to hint that it makes less sense to spend that kind of money if Dembele is still going to be at Parkhead beyond the summer.

“It’s a strange one, spending so much money on someone who has been there on loan,” said MacLeod, as reported by the Daily Record. “But Moussa might be thinking about moving on.
“People talk about him being worth £20million so if you can bring in that type of money for Moussa and then pay out £6-7million for Edouard, it seems like a good deal to me if you end up with another £13-14million in the bank.”
It remains to be seen what will happen with Dembele’s future with the Hoops. He seems to have been linked with possible moves away in every window since he joined the club, so perhaps there may be a side somewhere that decides to offer big money to Celtic in the hope of luring him away.
If Rodgers feels that there is a chance that the club may not lose Dembele during this window but one in the not so distant future, then perhaps it is worth triggering Edouard’s clause anyway and having that replacement in the ranks already.
