Everton and Liverpool will confront each other in the Merseyside derby later today.
The Premier League game will be played out at Goodison Park, and it promises to be a hugely entertaining encounter.
Two of the players who could be decisive in the encounter are Everton’s Muhamed Besic and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.
Both will be deployed in defensive midfield and will have to be at their very best in what could turn out to be a very attacking game of football.
Bosnia and Herzegovina international Besic joined Everton from Ferencvaros in the summer of 2014 and was expected to be a big player for the Toffees.
However, the 22-year-old has not had the best of times in the Premier League, and as stats below show, he has actually performed worse than Gerrard (although he has played fewer games).
| Total Clearance | Ball Recovery | Goal Assist | Chances created | Goals | Total Tackle | Won Tackle | Total Pass/Game | Accurate Pass/Game | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Gerrard | 45 | 113 | 1 | 41 | 5 | 37 | 27 | 54.3 | 46.75 | 20 | 1,613 |
| Muhamed Besic | 24 | 66 | 0 | 8 | 0 | 41 | 31 | 44.73 | 39.4 | 15 | 951 |
Gerrard is himself not having the best of seasons, but the stats above suggest that he is doing much better than Besic.
The only area where Besic has outperformed Gerrard so far this season is the number of tackles made and won.
