Everton defensive midfielder Muhamed Besic has suggested to The Liverpool Echo that his future is not in his hands.

The 25-year-old has been on the books of Everton since the summer of 2014 when he joined from Ferencvaros for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4 million.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international – who earns £30,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – has struggled to establish himself in the Toffees’ first team.

Besic, who played for Everton in their recent pre-season friendly match against Lille, has admitted that his future at Goodison Park is out of his hands.

When asked if he felt he had impressed Everton manager Marco Silva, Besic told The Liverpool Echo: “I don’t know, you have to ask him.

“But you saw the game, everybody saw the game, I’m confident in my quality after two years that was a difficult spell and it was just a matter of time until my quality came out.”

“I’m happy, I’m happy just to be back but we will see what will happen,” added the 25-year-old. “I don’t know, it is not in my hands.”

Everton exit likely?

Besic had a loan spell at Middlesbrough during the second half of last season, and the 25-year-old defensive midfielder did quite well.

Everton do have some good midfielders, and it is hard to see the former Ferencvaros man play regularly for the Toffees next season.

Perhaps it would be best for the defensive midfielder to leave Everton on a permanent basis this summer and join a club where he will get regular playing time.
