Ivan Toney will cost ‘much more than £4 million’ this summer amid interest from Celtic and Rangers, Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has told Peterborough Today.
If two Glasgow giants were hoping that an ongoing financial crisis would see Tony’s price-tag drop considerably in a shifting market, then they will be sadly mistaken.
The former Newcastle United youngster has been perhaps the most lethal striker in England’s third tier for two years now.
And, with 26 goals in 37 games across 2019/20, he is ready have another try at life higher up the footballing pyramid.
Fry said recently that both Celtic and Rangers have expressed an interest and, speaking again about Toney’s future on Thursday, he suggested that Bournemouth and Fulham could also enter join an ever-growing queue.
But anyone hoping to take Toney away from the London Stadium should be prepared to dig deep.
“My chairman (Darragh McAnthony) is confident we will get what we want for Ivan,” quipped one of English football’s most outspoken characters. “And that’s much more than the £4 million plus many add ons that New York (Red Bulls) offered.

“I believe other factors will be in play and there could well be a bidding war when the Premier League and Championship seasons are over.”
Peterborough Today suggests that it will take a fee closer to £10 million to convince Posh to cash in.
With that in mind, Celtic would have to shatter their transfer record to lure Toney north of the border.
