Former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso is making himself impossible to ignore having masterminded a stunning season at Bayer Leverkusen.
Any player who learns from Rafael Benitez, Vicente del Bosque, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola will probably pick up a thing or two about management.
Xabi Alonso was lucky enough to play under those managers and is now showing his excellence as a manger in Germany.
Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side remain undefeated across all competitions this season and are closing in on the Bundesliga title.
10 points clear at the top and progressing in the Europa League, Alonso is heading towards glory this season.
Alonso may deliver Leverkusen’s first-ever Bundesliga title – and then potentially move on this summer.
Uli Hoeness on Xabi Alonso
Alonso is unsurprisingly being touted for a move to Liverpool this summer.
An Anfield favourite from his playing days, Alonso is the hot favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
HITC Football understands that Liverpool are ‘quietly confident’ of bringing Alonso back to Anfield this summer.
The problem is that other clubs are interested in landing Alonso, most notably Bayern Munich.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is leaving the club in the summer and the Bundesliga giants want to raid their rivals for Alonso.
The Spaniard has history at Bayern too, ending his playing career there back in 2017.

Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has now commented on Alonso, telling Ran that Bayern would like Alonso.
However, Hoeness believes that Liverpool – alongside Real Madrid and current club Leverkusen – are ‘working on’ securing Alonso.
That leaves Bayern in a major fight for Alonso’s services with Hoeness well aware of the competition ahead of them.
“He has proven that he can be a coach for the really big teams and it will be much more difficult because clubs like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Leverkusen and also FC Bayern are working on it,” said Hoeness.
Alonso is the hot property in the coaching world right now having completely changed the fortunes of Leverkusen in around 18 months at the club.
Alonso’s style of play is different to Klopp’s though and Liverpool would need to go through a period of transition if they can win the race.
