Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports News on Monday afternoon that Tottenham need to keep Ledley King at the club after Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
The former centre-back, 40, was brought into Tottenham’s coaching set-up during Mourinho’s time at the club.
During his playing days, King was a popular figure in North London, even though he endured a number of injury-savaged years at Spurs.
And whatever happens from here on in, Redknapp wants to see King remaining in the Tottenham dugout, regardless of who is in charge.
“They have Ledley King there,” said Redknapp. “Ledley is a guy I really respect, and whoever going forward takes over as the manager, you have to keep people like King at the club.
“His knowledge. He can identify that club better than anybody. And he is much-loved by the fans.”
Whilst Daniel Levy searches for Mourinho’s successor, in the meantime, King will have a huge role to play behind the scenes.
Regardless of what is or isn’t believed about Mourinho’s time at the club, and his relationship with players, one thing is for sure, King is a popular man.
Levy pushed for a big name when Mauricio Pochettino was sacked – and it didn’t work out – so, it will be interesting to see how he navigates this next search for a new boss.
