The former Croatia international becomes Rangers’ sixth summer signing.
Niko Kranjcar – ex-Queens Park Rangers
Rangers today announced the signing of former QPR midfielder Nico Kranjcar and he may well prove to be Mark Warburton’s most astute piece of business yet.
The 31-year old joins on a two-year deal, as confirmed on the Gers’ official site, and would become the third former R’s player to join on a free this summer, after the arrivals of Joey Barton and Clint Hill.
Krancjar is by far the most intriguing player of the three and his presence in Glasgow could provide Rangers with their very own version of Lubo Moravcik.
Lubo Moravcik – Celtic v Rangers
The Celtic legend arrived at Parkhead in 1998, aged 33, after an undistinguished career and would go on to etch himself into club folklore over the next four seasons.
The Slovakian formed a deadly partnership with Henrik Larsson and wowed the Parkhead faithful with his technical ability.
Lubo Moravcik – Celtic
Krancjar meanwhile, has already established himself South of the border with the likes of Portsmouth, Tottenham and QPR and Gers fans will be well aware of his quality.
Scotland’s Scott Brown (L) and Croatia’s Niko Kranjcar in action
At 31-years old, the Croat is a couple of years younger than Moravcik when he arrived, but his similarities on the pitch could soon bring an equally joyful response from the Ibrox crowd.
Both players are comfortable on either foot, have a penchant for the spectacular goal and a keen eye for a pass.
Krancjar possesses that genius streak that is so hard to come by in players and while his athleticism and lack of consistency likely prevented him reaching the pinnacle of the game, his talent has never been in doubt.
In Kranjcar, Mark Warburton has added a creative spark to his team the likes of which he hasn’t had yet and one who could take Scottish football by storm.
