Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer is raring to get back to North London and get his pre-season underway.
The 23-year old played a bit-part role for Austria, in what was a massively underwhelming effort, as the highly-regarded team exited Euro 2016 at the group stages last month.
As a result of his participation, Wimmer has been given extra time off before returning to Hotspur Way to take part in Mauricio Pochettino’s notoriously grueling pre-season regime and the talented defender took to Twitter to share his enthusiasm.
Wimmer surprised many last season when he seamlessly stepped in for the injured Jan Vertonghen halfway through the campaign and performed excellently until the Belgian’s return to fitness.

Some felt he was unlucky to lose his place after such strong showings but Vertonghen’s seniority earned him the nod over the former Cologne man.
Reports this summer – by the likes of Austrian outlet Laola – have linked Wimmer with a move away from Spurs but that doesn’t seem to be a likely scenario.

Vertonghen finds himself on the treatment table again after suffering ligament damage at the Euros making it highly likely Wimmer starts the season in the first XI.
The Austrian has proven he is more than capable of performing in Pochettino’s system and he seems determined to remind everyone of his qualities in the coming months.
