The new arrival has revealed his preference for a holding midfield role.
Newcastle United new boy Isaac Hayden has offered insight into his versatility, in quotes published by the Chronicle.
The 21-year-old joined the Magpies on a free transfer on Monday, signing a five-year deal and going straight into Rafa Benitez’s first-team squad.
“I am a holding midfielder, probably the deepest of a midfield three,” said Hayden.
“But I can play right-back and centre-back, so I am quite versatile. I just want to get as many games under my belt as I can and help the team bounce back to the Premier League.”
The youngster arrives on Tyneside after seven years with Arsenal but it is his experiences last season that could prove vital for the Magpies.
Hayden joined Hull City on a season-long loan last summer and played a part in their successful promotion bid.
As a result he will be well prepared for the pressures of a promotion push this time round and his versatility is sure to make him a useful figure for Benitez throughout the campaign.
The Magpies have efficiently gone about their business this summer – due in no small part to the pulling power of their manager – and their focus on recruiting players with Championship experience should prove effective.
