QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has hinted that his priorities may not rest with the EFL Cup as he plans to introduce some youngsters for Wednesday night’s game with Sunderland.
The former Chelsea striker might soon be under pressure after the London club made a poor start to the season, winless in three games.
Newcastle United’s Ayoze Perez with Queens Park Rangers’ Yeni Ngbakoto and Jake Bidwell
The 16th-placed side followed up last week’s 6-0 home defeat to Newcastle with a 2-1 reverse at table-toppers Huddersfield Town, and Hasselbaink has conceded that changes will be made for the visit of Sunderland.
Speaking to West London Sport, he said “It’s another tough match. I will have to rest a few players that have a few knocks and will not play, and put some younger players in.”
Queens Park Rangers’ Alex Smithies looks dejected
Hasselbaink had already admitted that confidence is low’ around the club and that it was necessary to ‘lift the players’.
The club have an important home clash with Birmingham City on Saturday as they seek to end a winless league run of four games, and five at Loftus Road.
If they beat Sunderland, QPR will progress into the fourth round of this competition for the first time since the 08/09 campaign.
