David Moyes has been linked with bringing Liverpool striker Christian Benteke to Sunderland, and he reportedly wanted him at Manchester United.

Perhaps Liverpool supporters have one more reason to rue Manchester United’s decision to sack David Moyes in 2014.
Last summer the Reds splashed out £32 million to sign Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke, and the deal has not worked out. This summer Benteke is a millstone around their necks, the striker they cannot shift, due to their demand to recoup the money they spent.

Moyes’ Sunderland are the latest club linked by The Mirror – and it is no surprise given his previous credited interest in the player.
The Mirror reported in 2013 that Moyes was very keen on Benteke and personally scouted him while on international duty, with the intention of signing him for Manchester United.

The report stated: “Moyes is a huge fan of the powerful centre-forward who has been a striking sensation in the Premier League.”
Had he remained Manchester United boss, there is a good chance he would have pushed hard to sign him last summer when he became available, and beaten Liverpool to his signature.
Now at Sunderland, the big question is whether Moyes has the finances available to do Liverpool a favour, and get the striker he has been a fan of for years.
