Moyes’ transfer concerns should give Newcastle fans hope over Benitez

West Ham United are reportedly planning to make a move for Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez.

According to a report from The Guardian, there is growing concern at Newcastle that Rafa Benitez will make the move to West Ham if the right offer is made as the Hammers have now placed the Spaniard at the top of their wishlist.

The Irons are looking for their next manager following David Moyes’ exit, and Benitez is seemingly the man that the club want to replace him after his tremendous tenure at Newcastle, where he guided the Magpies to the Championship title and a top-half finish in their first year back in the Premier League.

With Benitez enduring frustrating transfer windows during his time at St James’ Park, Newcastle fans would be forgiven for sharing the same concerns that some at the club seem to currently have if Mike Ashley does not provide assurances that he intends to back the 58-year-old during the summer.

But perhaps one of Moyes’ own concerns about this summer’s window should give the Toon Army some hope that Benitez will find that the London Stadium grass is no greener than it is in the North East.

According to The Guardian, Moyes, before his departure, was said to be unhappy with the funds that were set to be made available to him for this summer.

It is not clear how much the board were promising, or whether they would be willing to provide even more if Benitez arrives, but it must throw some doubt over whether the Newcastle boss would be able to look at a move to West Ham as a forward step.

From the outside, it appears that Benitez’s main frustrations at Newcastle have been to do with transfers, so leaving one club for another where the same problems may occur seems to make little sense, especially as they are vying for the same sort of achievements each season.
