West Ham United are reportedly interested in Marouane Fellaini.
West Ham United still aren’t safe from the Premier League drop zone, but manager David Moyes appears to be making some plans for next season in the top flight.
The Hammers sit six points clear of the bottom three after today’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal, and even though Moyes isn’t even guaranteed of being manager next season, one alleged target is no surprise at all.
The Mirror report that West Ham are one of six clubs interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini this summer, alongside Besiktas, Juventus, Leicester City, Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.
Fellaini, 30, is out of contract this summer and has so far refused to pen a new deal, meaning he looks set to move on for free this summer – and Moyes’ interest is incredibly predictable.
Not only did Moyes sign Fellaini for Everton from Standard Liege back in 2008, but he then took the Belgian international to Manchester United with him in 2013, and appears to be keen on signing him for a third time.
West Ham fans shouldn’t be surprised by the rumours, but despite the stature of the clubs in the race for his signature, they shouldn’t be excited about the links to Fellaini either.
The wages needed to beat those clubs to Fellaini’s signature would far exceed his true value, and at 30, West Ham should be dead against paying huge wages to a player who has started just four league games this season.
Moyes may have got the best out of Fellaini before, but West Ham need to move forward and focus on youth rather than continue to put money into ageing veterans seeking one last pay day; a category Fellaini may just fit into.
