If Kieran Tierney leaves Celtic, will he be a success in the Premier League?
Tierney’s future is still unknown, although a report from The Daily Record today suggests that the Hoops are bracing themselves for another bid from the Gunners.
The English transfer window closes on Thursday evening, so there is now a real urgency to get the deal completed if it’s there to be done.
Moyes, who follows Celtic closely and obviously has a good grasp of the standards required in the Premier League, believes that Tierney has what it takes to be a success in the division if he does move.
As quoted by The Sunday Post, the 56-year-old said: “If he does go to the Emirates, I can see him being a stalwart for Arsenal for the next 10 years.
“It may take him a little period of time for him to fully adjust to life in the EPL. He will be facing a top-end player every week, and he will need to get to grips with that as there will be much more defensive duties to carry out than he has probably been used to at Celtic.
“But if the move goes through, he will go on to show his worth and will be a credit to himself and his country.”
Celtic fans must be sick of this transfer saga, with everyone apparently on hand to give their opinion on the situation, but there’s only a few days left to endure of all the chatter, whether he stays or goes.
The Hoops have played their hand well and know they will come out ahead in each scenario.
Either they receive a record fee and realise a massive profit on a homegrown player or have a defender on their hands that managers such as Moyes believe is of elite quality.
The 10 years claim is certainly bold, but no-one will be betting against Tierney if he does move south. He’s shown serious ability and potential at Celtic, also demonstrating a commitment that sets him apart from his peers.
Whether at Celtic, Arsenal or another club, the 22-year-old has a bright future ahead.
