West Ham should try out new strike pairing with international nearing return.
West Ham United’s need for goals is apparent, as shown by the fact that they have scored just twice across David Moyes’ first four games in charge.
The return from injury of Javier Hernandez, who has yet to play under Moyes, should help to address that issue somewhat, with the Mexico international having scored four goals in eleven Premier League appearances this season.
Moyes may well be considering possible tactical tweaks that could make West Ham more of a threat going forwards and one possible option is to pair Hernandez with Diafra Sakho.
Sakho has scored just one Premier League goal so far this season but he has been used exclusively as a substitute and, now that he appears to be over his injury struggles, would surely relish the opportunity to receive a run of games in the top flight.
Although the majority of sides in the English top flight now play with just one striker, there is a possibility that Hernandez and Sakho could form a deadly duo, with the pair capable of terrorising opposing defences with their pace and clever movement.
Sakho has a point to prove to Moyes as he looks to convince his new manager that he is a player worth persisting with.
The Senegal international at least deserves a chance to demonstrate his credentials and with Hernandez alongside him the pressure on him to find the net wouldn’t be as significant as if he was up front on his own.
As soon as Hernandez is back available, Moyes should look to pair him with Sakho in a move that could be hugely beneficial to West Ham’s hopes of avoiding relegation, even if it does leave Andy Carroll on the bench.
