According to The Daily Star, West Ham United manager David Moyes has decided to pass on the opportunity to sign Mykola Matviyenko from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer transfer window.

90min reported last month of interest in the Ukraine international defender from West Ham among other clubs.

Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton were also reported to be looking at the 24-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a left-back.

However, The Daily Star has now claimed that Moyes has passed on the opportunity to sign the Ukraine international.

Meanwhile, Milliyet has reported that West Ham are interested in signing Domagoj Vida from Besiktas this summer.

The Turkish news outlet has claimed that the Hammers will soon open talks with Besiktas over the 31-year-old Croatia international centre-back.

West Ham United need a new centre-back

West Ham have been defensively weak this season, with the Hammers conceding twice against Newcastle United and twice again against Arsenal in their opening two Premier League games.

The Daily Star has claimed that Moyes wants to sign a new centre-back this season, and it would make sense given that Hammers conceded 62 goals in 38 league matches last season.
