Moyes’ past comments on Evra make interesting reading, after West Ham speculation

West Ham United manager David Moyes worked with Patrice Evra at Manchester United.

According to The Daily Mail, West Ham United are interested in signing Patrice Evra on a free transfer.

It has been reported that the Hammers are in talks with the former Manchester United defender, who is without a club at the moment.

The former France international left-back is 36 years of age and is clearly past his best, but his performances at Juventus from 2014 until 2017 were quite encouraging.

While the former AS Monaco and Marseille left-back is not going to be a long-term success at West Ham, Evra can do a decent job until the end of the season.

West Ham manager David Moyes worked with Evra at United, and the former Everton boss rates him highly.

Back in October 2013 when there was speculation on the future of the Frenchman at Old Trafford, Moyes told The Guardian: “I don’t know how Pat is regarded in France but I know in Manchester we think very highly about him.

“He is an excellent player, fantastic in the dressing room, and I can only say good things about him.”

The aforementioned comments from Moyes underline just highly he rates Evra and how big an influence the Frenchman can be in the dressing room.

The Hammers are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, and they need characters to help them grind out results and leaders to take responsibility on the pitch.

Evra can provide that.
