Liverpool owe their victory over West Ham United tonight to James Milner as much as anyone.

Jurgen Klopp’s side made it back-to-back Premier League victories by beating the Hammers at Anfield, days after edging out Manchester City on Merseyside.

West Ham could and should have salvaged a point but Milner preserved Liverpool’s 1-0 lead late on.

The 36-year-old substitute flung himself in front of a Tomas Soucek tap-in to keep out the Irons.

And according to Sky Sports journalist Peter Smith, Milner’s heroics – or Soucek’s miss – brought David Moyes to his knees on the touchline.

He said to Sky: “David Moyes is on his knees! He can’t believe it! Milner, so good against Man City on Sunday, has delivered for Liverpool again!”

Milner’s body might be slowing down with the aging process, but his heart continues to pump for the cause and that intervention was truly massive for the Anfield outfit.

He remains as dedicated and committed as ever, and this instance was testament to his passion.

It was a massive win for Liverpool who could be accused of taking two steps back everytime they tried to move forward this season.

But beating a good, resolute West Ham outfit, days after doing the same to Pep Guardiola’s side, is a good indication that perhaps the Reds can finally kick-start their Premier League campaign now.
