Simon Jordan has claimed that David Moyes is ‘nobody’s fool’ in response to West Ham United possibly signing Jesse Lingard, as he told talkSPORT.
The 29-year-old is set to leave Manchester United in the summer and become a free transfer.
One obvious destination for Lingard will be returning to West Ham – where he last played regularly and thrived in the Premier League.
That six-month loan spell last season saw him return to the England set-up, but it has soon gone downhill once more when he returned to Old Trafford.
Could Lingard don West Ham colours again? Well, it seems as though the Hammers are trying to re-sign the 32-cap international.
And former Crystal Palace owner Jordan suggested if Moyes wants Lingard back, then you must trust his judgment because he hasn’t got much wrong.
“Why wouldn’t they? (West Ham fans welcome Lingard back),” said Jordan. “The key component to Jesse Lingard’s move was free-transfer.
“Free-transfer means one thing, more money in the player’s salary. Newcastle wanted to take him on-loan (in January) and Manchester United wanted £10 million for him as a loan fee.
“So, with that in mind, he could have gone, but people didn’t want to pay the money.
“He probably wasn’t that motivated to go because he knows, in the summer, any transfer fee anybody doesn’t have to pay for him, the argument would be that it would land in his salary.
“One thing we have to factor is David Moyes is nobody’s fool. He’s not going to take players that are going to be turkeys. So if he feels Lingard’s a decent signing.”
LINGARD SHOULD HAVE STAYED AT WEST HAM
It’s easy to look back in hindsight, but Lingard staying put at Old Trafford was a big mistake.
In truth, it was understandable why he did remain, a boyhood Man United fan, watching Cristiano Ronaldo walk through the doors and then talk of a Premier League title challenge.
It was the complete opposite and now he will be looking to pick his career up again.
The Hammers are in Europe, they need that added depth, Lingard understands what they are all about and so does Moyes.
That’s the logical move for the player and one that would suit West Ham because he is on a free and they aren’t big spenders as it is.
