Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday are both going to be impacted by West Ham manager’s departure.
Rangers are hoping to bring Burke to Ibrox on a permanent deal, while Wednesday prefer a loan deal.
A big decision lies ahead for Burke, and this will have been put on hold by David Moyes’ West Ham exit.
Burke spent the first half of season out on loan at Bolton and after his return in January Moyes played him in the FA Cup before deciding he was surplus to requirements and sending him back out on loan again.
Now the club will have an entirely fresh start and Burke’s decision over his future will be back on hold until he finds out whether the new manager plans to use him or not.
A perennial loanee, young centre-back Burke has been overtaken in the pecking order by teenager Declan Rice this season, who Moyes made a key part of the West Ham first team.
Burke will hope he can catch the eye of West Ham’s next boss, and may now see extra value in staying for pre-season.
If Burke is given hope he has a future at West Ham long-term, he would find Sheffield Wednesday’s loan proposal preferable to signing with Rangers permanently.
Both clubs may have to now wait until West Ham appoint a new manager, so Burke can get some clarity over his future, and even that may not happen until after pre-season is over with.
