Dietmar Hamann has said on Sky Sports News (3:40pm, January 31, 2023) that Liverpool should not hand new contracts to midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.
English midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season.
Guinea international midfielder Keita will also become a free agent in the summer of 2023.
There has been speculation that Liverpool could hand the 29-year-old and the 27-year-old new contracts.
But ex-Liverpool star Hamann has said that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners should just let Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita leave on a free at the end of the season.

Hamann said: “I was very surprised that there is even talk about extending the contracts of Oxlade-Chamberlain or Keita.
“They haven’t done nearly enough to even get a new contract or offered a new contract by Liverpool. I think you have to move these players on.”

What should Liverpool do?
In our view, Liverpool should just simply let Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita leave at the end of the season when their respective contracts run out.
Both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita are very good players, but they have had injury problems during their time at Anfield and have not really been at their best for the Merseyside club.
We think that Liverpool need to invest in their squad in the summer of 2023, especially in midfield.
It is unlikely that either Oxlade-Chamberlain or Keita will be able to step up their game at Liverpool, and we believe that it would be best for all parties concerned that they part ways at the end of the season.
