Moussa Sissoko’s performance against Wycombe proved he is not good enough for Tottenham

The French international was appalling for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Ever since Moussa Sissoko arrived at Tottenham Hotspur from Newcastle United for £30million (as reported by the BBC) he has had his fair share of critics, and with each below par performance they only increase.

But it was the Frenchman’s showing against Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday that proved just how little Sissoko offers this Tottenham side.

Here was a match the midfielder should have dominated, not only because of his price tag but also because he is an international with experience of playing on the biggest stage of all; a player who should be desperate to prove his doubters wrong.

Instead he did nothing of note, with Tottenham owing their continued presence in the competition to a late fightback inspired by Dele Alli and Heung-min Son.

Wycombe played their hearts out and, if truth be told, deserved to win, but Sissoko – whose all too brief resurgence for France at Euro 2016 is long forgotten – should have done so much more.

He was the experienced head in an otherwise young midfield, a player whose engine and work rate have previously been praised as his biggest assets, and yet he went missing.

In short, he is not good enough for this Tottenham side, and they would be wise to acknowledge their mistake and get rid of him in the summer, rather than delaying the inevitable.
