Tottenham Hotspur’s final two Premier League games are against Leicester City and Hull City.
Tottenham Hotspur paid as much as £30 million to sign Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, as reported by BBC Sport.
It was quite a lot of money to spend on a player who had just been relegated from the Premier League, and as it subsequently proved, it was money wasted.
Spurs did not have any need to sign a player of Sissoko’s ilk. The France international midfielder has been largely a squad player for the North London outfit this campaign.
The 27-year-old midfielder has started just seven Premier League matches and has made 16 substitute appearances this season.
Tottenham would have finished second without Sissoko. Now that Spurs are guaranteed to clinch the runners-up spot, one could get a glimpse into the future of the French in the team’s final two matches.
Spurs will take on Leicester City away from home at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Thursday evening before facing Hull City at the KCOM Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
If manager Mauricio Pochettino does not start Sissoko against Leicester and Hull, then it would show that he does not rate the Frenchman at all.
After all, with Spurs having nothing to play for now, why wouldn’t Pochettino give the former Newcastle man some playing time?
If the Frenchman is left out of the starting lineups against the Foxes and the Tigers, then it would clearly indicate that he does not feature in the manager’s plan for next season.
That would mean that Sissoko could be made available for transfer in the summer transfer window.
The problem, though, would be whether any club would be prepared to pay close to £30m for Sissoko.
