Moussa Sissoko has shared that he never thought of leaving Tottenham despite being ‘hurt’ by Mauricio Pochettino’s decisions during his early struggles at the club.

The popular Spurs midfielder stated that if he had abandoned ‘everything’ during that period then it would have been a ‘descent into hell’, as he shared how he stuck with it and worked even harder to prove his worth.

Sissoko joined Spurs from Newcastle during the summer of 2016 [BBC Sport], but it was only until last season that he began putting in strong, consistent performances, as it could even be argued that he was Spurs’ best player last term.

Nonetheless, Spurs fans will love to hear how Sissoko stuck to his guns, never let his head down and continued to motor on, as his hard work is now paying off on a regular basis.

“Not being at the 2018 World Cup was, of course, a disappointment, but not an end in itself,” said Sissoko, as quoted by TalkSport. “I was aware of having a complicated year with my Tottenham club. The coach’s choices hurt me, but it’s the law of football.

“The only thing to do was to redouble efforts. To abandon everything would have been a descent into hell. I did not want to stay on a failure. I never thought of leaving Tottenham, it gave me, even more, the desire to do well.

“I have a winning mentality, it has been like that throughout my career. I do not make any noise, I do not come in the media to say that I had to play.”

If Sissoko had left Tottenham last summer then no-one would have batted an eye-lid, but fans will be glad he was not sold because of the performances he put in for the club since.

With injuries to the likes of Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier, not forgetting that Mousa Dembele was also sold in January, it opened up the door for Sissoko to play on a regular basis in the middle of the park and he didn’t let anyone down.

Whilst he is still trying to improve his game in the final third, he is being a solid wall in front of Tottenham’s backline, which has started the season in an indifferent manner.
