Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has responded to the club’s reported £35 million valuation of him in defiant manner by insisting to L’Equipe that “it changes nothing”.
Sissoko has been very public about his desire to leave St. James’ Park this summer following the Magpies’ relegation, and his performances for France at Euro 2016 have only served to increase interest in him.
Clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old, despite Newcastle insisting earlier this summer that they will only sell their stars if it is in the club’s best interest.
Reports this week have suggested that the Magpies would only consider selling a fee in the region of the club-record £35 million they received for Andy Carroll five years ago if they are to allow Sissoko to leave.
That fee would be likely to price out some of the midfielder’s suitors, but the player himself told L’Equipe that he is unconcerned by the high price tag.
Sissoko is quoted as saying: “Newcastle would ask for £35m? It could be £20m – for me it changes nothing.
“The interested clubs will know how to find common ground. I hope that it will be as early as possible.”
If a deal can be struck for somewhere approaching £35 million, it would surely be the best deal for all parties involved.
Sissoko is undoubtedly a quality player when his attitude is right, as displayed perfectly for France this summer, but it was clear last season that his head is no longer in the game at St. James’ Park.
