The French international has had a largely improved campaign in 2017-18.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has been discussing his improved status at the club this season, and his hopes of making the World Cup in the summer.
The Frenchman struggled last season after making a deadline day switch from Newcastle United in the summer, for a fee reported by Sky Sports to be in the region of £30 million.
He struggled to settle at Spurs and only started eight games in the Premier League. But this season he has played much more football and whilst he has not yet won over the Tottenham fans completely his performances have improved.
Speaking to L’Equipe this week, he explained how he was happy with his performances in the new campaign and what may have caused his struggles last term:
“Last year, I had a pretty difficult season with Tottenham due to my late transfer. I did not have time to have a preparation. It was not easy so I got benched.
“This year it’s a lot better, I’ve played a lot, I’m playing matches. We are very well ranked in the league, still in the Champions League.
“There is an interesting end of the season, goals to go. I will do everything to try to achieve them hoping to get my ticket to Russia.”
Sissoko certainly seemed to be out of condition and practice when he played for Spurs last season and fans were not impressed with his displays in a Tottenham shirt.
This season has been more productive from the French midfielder, who also spoke of his desire to make the France squad for the World Cup this summer.
He has already played more Premier League football this season than he managed in the whole of the previous campaign and it seems a full summer of pre-season training and being settled at Spurs has helped the 28-year-old find his feet at Tottenham.
Just this week, Mauricio Pochettino spoke of the importance of Sissoko to his Tottenham team and if he can continue to improve at Spurs at his current rate he might eventually win over the fans as well.
