Tottenham Hotspur snapped up Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day. The deal, said to be worth £30 million by the BBC, was a big fee for the player – but it came after he impressed in midfield for France at Euro 2016 this summer.

He was not alone in performing well for France.

Balise Matuidi was as good as ever for his nation in the summer and his form for Paris Saint-Germain has been exceptional for the past few seasons.

It seems that he could have also been on the move this summer.

Speaking to beIN Sports yesterday the Tottenham newbie discussed Matuidi’s summer, and insisted that he wanted to join Juventus.

He stated:

“At Clairefontaine, I was often with him in the room. I could see he wanted to leave and wanted to surely be another challenge.

“There was Juventus who were interested in him. it was something exciting for him. But unfortunately, PSG was against his departure. I can understand that. Blaise is a tremendous player who has contributed much to Paris Saint-Germain and the France team.

“I know how it feels when you want from a club because I was also in this situation, I wanted to leave. it was not done but who felt, I felt the same thing. We supported each other.”

“I know this is a very good player, he is going to fight and not let up and continue to bring to the PSG.”

Of course Sissoko craved a transfer himself this season, with PSG one of the big teams linked with a move for the midfield dynamo.

Tottenham managed to grab the player in the end, beating Everton to his signature on transfer deadline day.

Matuidi helped PSG to a draw against Spurs’ local rivals Arsenal in the Champions League last night. Spurs will be hoping Sissoko can help them go one better against French opposition this evening v Monaco.
